How to clean and replace PP meltblown filter cartridges?

Mar 25, 2026 Leave a message

PP melt-blown filter cartridges are typically designed for single use and are not recommended for cleaning and reuse. They should be replaced immediately if the water flow rate drops by ≥30%, the pressure difference is ≥0.3MPa, or the filter cartridge turns black.

Regarding Cleaning: Cleaning is generally not recommended as it can damage the structure

Although some sources mention cleaning methods, PP meltblown filter cartridges are made of ultra-fine polypropylene fibers physically entangled. Cleaning will damage the fiber structure, leading to filtration failure.

If cleaning is necessary in special circumstances (such as temporary emergency situations), only the following method should be used:

1. Water Rinsing Method

* Remove the filter cartridge from the filter bottle and immerse it in clean water, vigorously shaking it to dislodge impurities.

* Repeat the process, changing the water, until the water is no longer cloudy. Then rinse the surface with running water.

* This method only removes loose surface impurities and is ineffective for deep blockages.

2. Detergent-Assisted Cleaning

* Add a small amount of neutral detergent to clean water, soak and gently shake the filter cartridge. Rinse thoroughly after the color lightens.

* Risk: Residual detergent may contaminate the output water, and the cost is close to the price of a new filter cartridge.

Important Reminder: The filtration accuracy of the filter cartridge will decrease significantly after cleaning. It is recommended to use this as a temporary measure and replace it with a new one as soon as possible.

Replacement Timing: Scientific Judgment to Avoid Secondary Contamination

Judgment Criteria Explanation
Increased Pressure Difference When the inlet and outlet pressure difference reaches ≥0.3MPa, the filter cartridge is saturated.
Decreased Flow Rate The water flow rate decreases significantly (≥30%), and flushing is ineffective.
Discoloration The filter cartridge changes from white to dark brown or black, indicating adsorption saturation.
Usage Time 3–6 months for normal water quality; shorten to 1–2 months for highly polluted water sources.

Replacement Steps: Safe and Standard Operation, Ensuring Sealing

1. Shut Down the System and Depressurize/Drain Water

* Close the inlet valve and open the drain outlet or faucet to release pipeline pressure and drain residual water.

2. Remove the Old Filter Cartridge

* Use a special wrench to slowly unscrew the filter bottle cap and remove the old filter cartridge. Observe the degree of contamination (this can help determine water quality issues).

3. Clean the Filter Cartridge

* Wipe the inner wall of the filter bottle and the sealing ring groove with a clean cloth to remove residual impurities and prevent secondary contamination.

4. Install the New Filter Cartridge

* Check that the sealing ring of the new filter cartridge is intact. Wet the sealing ring with water and place it vertically into the filter bottle, avoiding twisting.

* Manually tighten the filter bottle cap until it is secure, then use a wrench to tighten it by half a turn to prevent overtightening that could cause deformation and leakage.

5. Rinsing and Inspection

* Slowly open the inlet valve, allowing water to flow slowly through the new filter cartridge for 5–10 minutes to remove protective fluid and air bubbles.

* Check for leaks at the connections. Normal use is only permitted after confirming that the water output is clear and stable.
