How long should the CTO activated carbon block filter cartridge be rinsed after replacement?

After replacing a CTO activated carbon block filter cartridge, it is recommended to rinse at a low flow rate for 10 to 15 minutes until the water is clear with no black water or foam. Your meticulousness and patience after replacing the filter cartridge are crucial for ensuring safe drinking water and are commendable.

According to water purifier usage guidelines, a thorough rinsing is necessary after installing or replacing a new CTO (compressed activated carbon) filter cartridge. The main reasons are as follows:

* Removal of protective liquid and activated carbon powder: New filter cartridges may have trace amounts of protective agent or activated carbon powder remaining from the manufacturing process. Direct consumption may affect the taste or even cause gastrointestinal discomfort.

* Activation of the adsorption structure: Rinsing helps the water flow open the micropores of the activated carbon, improving the subsequent adsorption efficiency of residual chlorine, odors, and organic matter.

* Prevention of secondary pollution: The initial "black water" is residual activated carbon powder that has not been rinsed out. If not completely drained, it may enter the downstream RO membrane or the direct drinking water circuit, causing blockage or contamination.

Rinse Instructions

1. Turn off the power to the water purification system (if there is a booster pump).

2. Open the drinking faucet or flush valve and let the water flow out naturally.

3. Control the water flow to a low speed (to avoid impact that could cause the filter cartridge to shift).

4. Continue rinsing for 10–15 minutes, observing the water change from cloudy to clear.

5. Turn off the faucet and restore the system to normal operation.

Tip: If there is still a slight amount of activated carbon powder during the first water purification, you can extend the rinsing time by 3–5 minutes, which is normal.

Special Reminder

* Do Not Skip The Rinsing Step: Even if the filter cartridge is labeled "pre-rinse type," it is still recommended to rinse for at least 5 minutes to ensure safety.

* Smart Reminder Reference: Some high-end water purifiers are equipped with a "new filter cartridge rinsing countdown" function; follow the prompts.

* Regular Maintenance: CTO filter cartridges should generally be replaced every 9–12 months. In areas with high residual chlorine, it is recommended to replace them every 6–8 months. After replacement, the above rinsing process must be repeated.
